Lifestyle Lolita 101! ~ The Values of the Lolita Lifestyle & The Princess Code!

 Hello my wonderful gold sprinkles! ^^;

I'm back on my blog today with my second to last post from my Lifestyle Lolita 101 series! ~ This is going to be a bit of a smaller post this time but I wanted to include it anyway! :3

This time, I'm going to share the values of the Lolita Lifestyle! ~

*Please keep in mind that these are only for information and inspirationnal purposes! You don't need to preach all those values to be a lifestyle Lolita! These are just the most common associated with the lifestyle and also the ones that personally inspire me the most so it's very subjective! ^w^

The first value that usually come to our mind when we think about Lolita is of course Elegance. ~ Not only in the way of being and presenting yourself to the world in an elegant way but also on the attention to details in general!

Next is Modesty. ~ When we talk about modesty, it's more oriented towards not wearing clothes that are super revealing of the body. I would even say that is kind of a desexualization of the body by wearing clothes that doesn't put the emphasis on that.

The third and fourth one I put them together because they kind of mean the same thing; Politeness and Courtesy! Lolitas already stand out a lot because of the way we are dressed so I think it's important to be very polite with people in general because we are kind of representing the community as a whole! It's also best to be courteous and have a basic knowledge on etiquette and decorum, it is helpful when going out to fancy venues too! ^^

The next one is Kindness! ~ It's a value that is very important in general for everyone, but I think it suits the Lolita Lifestyle so well! No one wants to be seen as mean or hurt people for no reason... Giving genuine compliments, being present for your friends during time of hardships and being generally a kind and positive soul is such a nice value to have. :3

Kind of linked to kindness, the other one is Generosity! The Lolita community is most of the time a very tight knit community and we share a lot of our time, efforts and ressources together! ~ Lolitas that are always ready to help out newbies in need, share informations or tips about the fashion and also give a lot of their personal time into their local communities and planning meetups are very generous by nature. ^w^

I also put the second to last ones together because they also go hand in hand; Knowledge and Learning! The world of Lolita fashion and Lifestyle is one that is very complex and even if all the information is easily available; you must read, watch and learn a lot to get the fashion and the basics right! ~ Also, most of the Lolitas are very academic people; They might like to learn a new language or hobby like calligraphy or embroidery or read about history and know their classical literature and poetry for exemple.

Finally, the last one but not the least; Creativity! ^w^ Lolitas are also very creative people, either by putting together different coords which is an art in itself, but also by having hobbies that are very focused on art and creation! ~

In this post, I also wanted the share the Princess Code! ~ The Princess Code was an inspiring list of aspiration which marked a lot of Lifestyle Lolitas back in the days since it was written over a decade ago! I think that the Princess Code really summarizes the values of the Lolita Lifestyle so that's why I wanted to include it here! ^w^

~ The Princess Code ~

A Princess should follow her heart and believe in her dreams, even if the whole world seems to be against her.

Lifestyle Lolita 101! ~ "Lolify" and embellish your everyday life!

Hello my wonderfully sweet Earl Grey cups! :3c

Today I decided to continue my Lifestyle Lolita 101 series that I started a bit ago! In this blog post today I will share some inspirations and ideas about how you can "Lolify" and embellish your everyday life! ^^; I hope these may inspire you in your daily life if you want to incorporate a bit more of lifestyle Lolita elements to it! ~

"Lolify" and embellish your everyday life! ~

If you want to incorporate more Lolita elements into your daily life, ask yourself; What would a refined little girl or the nobility from another era would have in place of that object that would fulfill the same function but would be much more cuter and elegant?

~ Cute or antique furniture

You can try to DIY or repaint some old or thrifted furniture or embellish them with wallpaper, ribbons or lace trims. You can also try to make or buy covers for your chairs and couch... Or if you are on a pinch some cute or elegant sheets and pillowcases can also be used and you can thrift them too!

~ Curtains in place of blinds

They are much more elegant, just as functional and they are quite easy to make too! You can also tie them with some fancy tassels or ribbons during the day!

~ A pretty and intricate carpet

Some of them come in cute and fun shapes! You can have a small one for the place where you take outfit pictures and maybe a big statement one in the center of your room.

~ Decorative pillows and blankets

For your bed, your couch or just to decorate the corner of a room for a little reading nook if you like!

~ Fairy-lights and chandeliers

They are quite easy to find online or at the thrift store and they are less pricy than they seem! Fairy-lights are great as a night light around your bedroom. That's what I have around my bed! For the chandeliers if the colours doesn't suit your personal style, you can easily paint it and add embellishments to it!

~ Plushies, dolls and toys to decorate your living space

Some Lolitas like to collect retro, vintage or antique toys and plushies. They are very aesthetic and fun to have on display! ^^;

~ Artwork on the walls or a statement wallpaper

I like to support artist that make interesting pieces that matches the Lolita aesthetic or fanart of my favourite fandoms! If you want to "up your game" aesthetically I would suggest putting a frame around them and it will make any artwork seem more fancy! :3

~ An intricate tablecloth and a nice centerpiece

For all the tables around your house! Crochet centerpieces are quite easy to thrift and they can change the look of any table! ^^ You can also keep interesting trinkets on display as centerpieces.

~ A set of towels you can keep on display

For tea towels, hand towels, face towels, etc... I found some nice ones at geeky conventions I went to! You don't have to always use them but it's something nice to have on display, especially if they have a nice design or pretty embroidery on them!

~ An aesthetic tableware and cutlery set and actually using it

Sometimes when you have some pretty and fancy tableware you are more inclined to keep them on display and not really use them... But I've found some flowery antique ones at a flea market for a fraction of what they would sell online, keep an eye out for it and you may find some treasures!

~ Decorate with flowers, either real ones or fake ones

If you have the luxury of being able to have a pretty real flower bouquet on display it can brighten any room and add a nice natural fragrance to it also! But fake flowers are just as good too; you can change them to match your mood or your decor! It's nice to curate a perfectly balanced eternal bouquet for your living space and you can also send subtle messages to your guests with the language of flowers! ^^;

~ Add some charms/keychains on your bags, cellphone, portable game consoles, etc...

They are very cute and some brands have released some also, I have a BTSSB one! You can also try to find a phone case or a protective cover for your portable game console that would fit your Lolita aesthetic too!

~ Carrying Lolita-like things for when you are on the go

A nice handkerchief instead of some tissues, a flowery hand fan for sunny days, a nice pocket mirror instead of using your phone's camera, old-fashioned candies and mints (I love les Anis de Flavigny and the packaging is so aesthetic!), a pocket size book to read on idle times, a small pocket notebook to use as a journal, a small sewing kit (You can try and find some vintage/retro ones in thrift shops), a small "powder pouch" for when you need to reapply your makeup during the day, etc...

~ Using cute or elegant stationary

Pretty pens and pencils, fountain pens are very lifestyle Lolita, cute notebooks/notepads you can take on the go in your purse, school supplies, etc... The "Jolie" collection by Hilroy are very Lolita and they are pretty easy to find in mainstream stores, I had this collection for my schoolwork since college!

~ Use products that have cute or elegant packaging

I cannot resist a cute packaging; when something comes in a nice flowery or vintage container I got to have it! ^^'' You can also reuse the packaging for something else when the product will be finished!

~ Use candles, melts, perfumes or essential oils

Having an olfactory dimension that you associate with the lifestyle is another way to make your home more Lolita-like! You can also try to make your own pot-pourri for your closets! And if else fails; you can toss some cookies in the oven for that delightful sweet bakery smell! ^^;

~ Keep trinkets and pretty objects on display to decorate your living space

Music boxes, pocket watches, snow globes, interesting magasines or picture books, accessories and jewelry, hand fans, parasols, hats, crowns, hand mirrors, postcards, repurposed packaging, etc... They can make pretty nice decorations if used wisely! Don't be afraid of going overboard with it, it will only add to the opulence and the majesty of your decor!

~ Put on some Loliable music when you are at home

Wether it's classical music, Lo-Fi, Visual-kei or 50's pop, putting on some music that you associate with Lolita and the lifestyle can make your place feel more lively and complete! There's also no shame to burst out into a song as if you were in a musical while cooking dinner! ^^;

~ Try to match your utility objects to your style

Funny enough my favourite place to find aesthetic but useful objects for my daily lifestyle is the dollar store! In spring/summer they have such a wide variety of pastel and kitch objects for Easter and Valentine's day and Gothic Lolitas can go take a look during Halloween time to find some spooky dark treasures for their home!

~ Use "typical Lolita elements" as storage or for display

Around the house I tend to keep "not so aesthetic things" into more aesthetic ones; I've used teapots as storage and and teacups to keep some stuff on display on my vanity. I even use a pastry stand to display my daily headbows and my plushie bag charm collection! Porcelain jars are also good to keep things out of sight and they are very Lolita indeed!

~ Wear "Loliable" clothes when you aren't able to wear Lolita

A nice frilly/lacy nightgown or a cute/kitchy graphic tee with some bloomers makes some nice pajamas! You can try and find an 50's style swimsuit and some brands even released bikinis in the past! A frilly pastel parka along with pastel sweatpants for working out, etc...

Overall, it's all about filling your daily life with practical everyday objects that matches the Lolita aesthetic!

These are pretty much all the tips I could think about or gather with my research! ^^; Keep in mind that these are more for inspiration and you don't need to do all of them in order to be a lifestyle Lolita! It's just to help you bring more of the Lolita spirit into your daily lives! ~

In my next post for this series, I'll cover activities and hobbies that matches the Lolita lifestyle! ^^;

Until next time my yummy lavender cupcakes, stay safe and take care! :3

Lifestyle Lolita 101! ~ What is lifestyle Lolita?

Hello my sweet purple teddy bears! :3

Today I decided to start a little series on my blog about the Lolita lifestyle! ^^; I wanted a place to talk and share about the thing that is the most precious to me and there is no better way to do it than on my blog! ^w^ I also wanted to give another ressource for beginners when it comes to the Lolita lifestyle and also inspiration for others that may have been into it for a while! ~

As you may already know I gave a Lolita Fashion 102 panel at my local convention last summer and in that panel there was a segment about lifestyle Lolita! ^^; My blog post series on here will be mostly a translation of the contents from my panel with maybe some little bits added here and there as I go through it! :3

So let's start with the first lesson! ~

~ What is lifestyle Lolita? ~

Firstly, I want to touch on the subject that it's NOT necessary at all to be a lifestyle Lolita to wear Lolita fashion or participate in communities and going to meetups!

Personally, I consider myself a lifestyle Lolita since I started to wear the fashion. It's one of the aspects of the fashion that pushed me to wear Lolita everyday and really commit myself to the whole fashion and lifestyle! It helped me to pursue my passion through hobbies and values related to the fashion back in the days and I am very thankful to that because it shaped me as a person when I needed it the most and I feel like it also made me a better person too! ^^;

Lolita lifestyle is a part of the culture that I feel have decreased over the years as it became less and less popular. It was already rare to be a lifestyle Lolita when I started the fashion over 10 years ago and it's even less popular nowadays. It's not even mentioned on the ressources and databases about Lolita fashion... I had so many troubles finding diverses and complete ressources about the Lolita lifestyle, so that's what motivated to me make my own from the bits and bobs of information I found while doing my research for my panel! ^^;

~ Being a lifestyle Lolita is living (or at least trying!) to live your life like the nobility from another era! It's heavily based about opulence and the impression of wealth and luxury. Notice when I say "impression"; it doesn't have to be expensive or to cost a lot to live the Lolita lifestyle, but it have to give the impression that it does!

~ The Lolita lifestyle is really a way of life, an "art of living" and a culture. It goes way beyond the clothes and accessories! It extends into the different aspects of your life. For exemple; your house decor, the activities and hobbies you may want to pursue, your personal values as a person, etc...

~ It's essential to wear Lolita fashion (or Otome) daily! It may include other "sister" alternative Japanese fashions like Mori-kei, Himekaji, Fairy-kei or Visual-kei... But most of the time you really should be wearing Lolita fashion on the daily, even if it's casual, to be considered a lifestyle Lolita! ^^;

~ The definition of what is a Lolita lifestyle is really personal to each lifestyle Lolita. There is no specific rules or requirements to consider yourself a lifestyle Lolita except wearing the fashion as often as possible and "feeling" that you are a lifestyle Lolita personally.

There is a quote that I really like that I translated for my panel that is from The Lolita Princess's Lifestyle Lolita 101 panel that I think reflect the whole point of the Lolita lifestyle!

“I don't think you can make an actual list about requirements you need in order to be a Lifestyle Lolita. If you incorporate Lolita into your daily life and just ‘feel’ Lolita every day, you are a Lifestyle Lolita. You don't need to hear classical music and drink tea; if rock music gives you a Lolita vibe, then that's your Lolita Lifestyle.”

~ The Lolita Princess

So that was the first part of Lolita Lifestyle 101! ^^; In my next post from this series I'll cover how you can embellish and "Lolify" your everyday life! :3

Until next time my lovely pink starry ribbons, be safe and take care! ~
