Anime Review! ~ Dokidoki Precure!

Hello my shiny turquoise gems! ~

I'm back on my blog today with another anime review! ^w^ In February I finished Dokidoki Precure and I enjoyed it quite a lot! :3

I also want to preface my review by saying that I am currently watching all the Precure series in order, so I cannot compare to the most recent series which I have not seen. ~

As usual, I try to make my reviews as spoiler free as possible but they may contain minor spoilers though! ^^;

Dokidoki Precure

Dokidoki Precure is the 10th season of Precure. It aired back in 2013-2014. It have 49 episodes and a movie.

It's also dubbed as "Glitter Force Dokidoki" in english. The dubbed version have removed quite a lot of episodes and plot elements though and I haven't watched it. (Because I don't have any interest in anime dubs, oops... XD)

Story

The plot of this season is basically centered around fighting "selfishness" and bad emotions and bringing love back into the hearts of people. I really loved the theme of the series and the morals are quite deep for a kids show which is always something I like. ~

The story premise was a bit different than the other Precure seasons I have seen before! Usually in the first episodes the main cure would discover a fairy that would explain basically which kingdom they would have to protect, the reason why and what they should do in order to do that... But for this season there was already a cure that was a cure before the show started! I thought that was an interesting twist that wasn't done before from what I remember.

 I loved how they did play with that theme and how it brought a good handful of cliffhanger and plot twists into the story. I would say that, plot and story wise, this season is definitely the most well constructed so far. There is a bit of "age twisting" (I don't know how to put it ahah) and it may be a bit hard to follow at times for a kids show but it has been done before (in Suite Precure if I remember well?) and it's nicely explained though. ~

Art

The art style is pretty basic for a Precure series. Lots of colours, lots of pastels and sparkles! :3 I loved their cure outfits and how they all look different in terms of silhouette and design for once! I really liked how they animated their attacks, especially the very last one they get as a group attack. I also thought that it was interesting, unless the past few seasons, they have smaller individuals attacks that they use for support through the show (like Rosetta Reflexion). I feel like it's been a while since they had a proper defensive/protective attack, which is usually my favourite attacks! ^^;

Sound

I liked the opening and the endings for this series! ~ The voice of the characters matched their personalities nicely and none of them were grating to me. XD; I would have loved to see more songs integrated the show since Makoto (Cure Sword) is an idol though... ^^''

Characters

I thought that there was quite a lot of character focused episodes which is always something I like. ^^; Each character get around 2 or 3 episodes focused on their development which is typical for a Precure series. I really loved the fact that they all have their personal fairy. :3

Cure Heart was the typical bubbly pink leader. I liked her personality even is she was waaay too naive with Regina... I thought that Cure Diamond was nice and a bit quirky; still a typical studious blue cure but it wasn't overwhelming. Cure Rosetta is my waifu. XD; Love her personality, I love the fact that she is rich and that she have a mansion and butler but she is still facing personal hardships and trying to get through them. ~ Cure Sword is probably my least favourite cure... She does get a bit of development but I didn't like her for most of the first arc of the series. She was very arrogant and haughty with the first three cures at the start of the series and it was very much unnecessary in my opinion. Cure Ace was okay... Her development episode with her grandma made me like her a bit more but she was very much like Cure Sword at first and kind of rude for no reason which is isn't something I like, especially between cures... I usually have a thing against anime babies but Ai-chan isn't so bad honestly. She didn't bother me that much and there wasn't a lot of "baby focused" episodes which was nice. XD;

The main villains were okay; not too deep but not bland either. XD; Their villain bowling alley was cool and it kind reminded me of Sailor Moon villains. I loved the weird romance-ish episode between Ira and Cure Diamond. XD; Also, there was two villains that appeared in the middle of the series and they lasted only for a few episodes before not being seen again and I thought that was a bit weird? XD; I personally had a hard time with Regina... I feel like they tried to make her "relatable" but Mana (Cure Heart) is really too naive and that bothered me a lot how Regina played with her kindness and emotions? It gets worse as the series progress too... ^w^''

Enjoyment

I really enjoyed the series because I feel like this is one of the few Precure series so far that have a proper interesting plot. I loved the plot twists and the new things that they introduced to change up the typical mechanism for once. I loved the fact that they would use their support attacks for what they are and not necessarily as a big "power up" moment which was something I thought was laking in the last Precure series.

Overall I give Dokidoki Precure a rating of 9 out of 10!

I hope you enjoyed my Precure review! :3 Until next time my wonderful pink donuts with rainbow sprinkles, take care! ^w^
